Deanlee Management Inc. Sponsored Bus Tour

On Thursday, January 17th, Deanlee Management Inc. arranged a tour of some residential development in Mississauga and Toronto which they felt would give a good sense of possible configurations etc. for the Chedoke Browlands.

I shot a series of pictures: You can view the sets at Flickr.com by clicking here or you can quickly scroll through each set by clicking on the thumbnails below.

However, the aerial views on the ‘flickr site’ will aid in understanding the environmental framework within which these developments occurred and it is obvious that none are remotely like the Chedoke Brow area. For instance, all of the developments are located within close proximity to major road systems.

Note that the aerial view is an older picture of this development and the demolition of a city block / brown field site is evident in this image.

2. Old Mill Inn and Old Mill Terraces – Bloor St. East of Royal York Road and west of Humber River NP.jpg

Old Mill community also has lawn signs protesting development - check out their website at http://kingswayresidents.com/

3. High Rise Condominiums – St. Clair Ave and Spadina Rd
Same as #4

4. Health Street Condominiums – Health St. between Bathurst ST. and Spadina Rd.

5. Bedford Glen Residential Development – Avenue Rd. north of Lawrence Ave

I observed that all of the developments were built very close (a block or so) from major roadways (at least four lanes)and major high rise areas. natural

(On the FRAM development site was a very small plot of land that they had left behind as a natural area – you will see the sign posting in the picture.)

None of the areas we looked at were similar to Chedoke Brow, in terms of its beauty, location, heritage components or access routes. I did not see any evidence of development that preserved the natural setting for all residents.

I can’t speak for the planning staff, But from my perspective, I was significantly under whelmed and disturbed by what the developers are suggesting……

I would like to thank Tech for taking the time out of a day’s busy schedule to go on this bus trek. Previous committments did not allow me to take time off to join the group. Having said that, there is nothing particularly impressive or luxurious about the buildings in the pictures, in my opinion. In addition, I can’t fathom that the planning committee would think these examples would blend into our community.

These examples certainly do not reflect what the majority of the community voted for in the “Modified Secondary Plan Process” and they definitely have not convinced me that what Deanlee is proposing would be as high end as they would have us believe.

Don’t take my word for it….take the virtual bus tour.
