As a taxpayer, what did this OMB hearing fiasco cost us..??.ten thosand ? a 100 thousand ?? more ??If people want to oppose developmnt and growth let them pay. Many of us in the silent majority are fed up with frivilous spending at City Hall. Votes arent everything in your ward . Do what is right for the city, the whole city needs additional taxes mr whithead. and now that it is over , do ypu think the builder will ever sell any land to the city? FAT chance No wonder we are stuck in the 70's. als0 i see that some of the evedence given by one resident on scenic might be inaccurate maybe worse . take a lookat the on line comments.

Just like Hamilton to fight growth of the city. It took the Red Hill 10 years to be built because of all the tree huggers. They said it wasn't needed. I take the Red Hill every day to work and it takes me 20 minutes. Before that 45 min. Stop haggling and get the project built. The people are no different than the rest of the people in Hamilton they just think they are.

As a neighbourhood resident living in between 3 developments, I've sent my concerns via email to:
"As a resident of Ward 8, I would like to thank you for providing us with information on the development of 555 Sanatorium Road.

I would like to put forth a few items that should be taken into consideration with respect to the development:

As my family & I are located between two current areas being reviewed by the city for urban development; Chedoke Browlands and 555 Sanatorium road, will the overall effects of the 2 developments be considered together with respect to the following impacts to the area:

	a) Traffic Impact - increased traffic and existing road difficulties i.e.) Student buses currently unable to turn left out of Columbia College (taken from the City of Hamilton website)
	b) Environmental Impact -displacement of existing wildlife
        c) Water/waste-water management issues - flooding at the corner of Sanatorium & Sanatorium (at Idylwild & across from Holbrook baseball diamond) (again website)
        d) An (unconfirmed) estimate of over 800 properties in a concentrated area with existing flooding issues.(City website)

In addition to the approx 800 units in the area, that is not including the current construction of Columbia college residence.

By dividing up the 3 separate developments and reviewing each development on its own "appears" to be insignificant. However when combined the big picture identifies
significant problems or "challenges" which can be perceived both positive and negative. I am relying on the city to provide the positive aspects of not only developing 555 Sanatorium,
but also the Chedoke Browlands, in addition to the present construction of the Columbia College residence.

I would be displeased if the appeal to the city is an increase in property tax revenue. Job creation would be short term at best. I have read meeting minutes with respect to the flooding in this area as well as poor roads in need of repair and lack of sidewalks and it appears that the city is currently aware of the issues in the area but chose not to invest in the area to correct the existing problems. To add over 800 residences will compact this issue and result in greater financial cost to the
resident of Hamilton and perhaps more so the ward 8 residents.

Best Regards,
Teresa Latimer

Isn't it ironic. The people opposing are already paying the bill. We are the taxpayers too.
It's not about NIMBYism..its about our future. Enough said.

I am glad to see that Terry Whitehead is stepping up to bat on this one. Purchasing the said land by the City makes sense to me. I really hope that this comes to fruition.

Enough is enough... why hasn;t Whitehead or our Mayor Bratina been invovled ??? why ??? the time for NIMBYism is over.. let the people opposing pay the bills !! Most of us want to see a progresive city... not all this negative stuff ,,..,.enough is is enough Mr Priell

Deanlee may take partner on brow lands development

By MARK NEWMAN

Mountain News

Jun 15, 2011

Tell a friend The development saga of the Chedoke brow lands has taken a new twist. Paul DeMelo, lawyer for Deanlee Management, told an Ontario Municipal Board hearing Monday another business is in talks with his client about the 24 acres of brow land property it wants to develop along Sanatorium Road, north of Scenic Drive.

“It may not be a sale of the entire property,” said DeMelo, who did not reveal the identity of the interested party. “Maybe it’s just a partnership going forward in terms of the development.”

DeMelo also denied suggestions by some brow land area residents that Deanlee is looking to flip the property to another developer.

“It’s not a matter of we’re going to flip it to another developer. We now potentially have a partner that’s going to work with use in terms of the development of the site.”

Deanlee was looking to build 700 units on the brow lands, part of which would be a retirement community.

Many area residents oppose the plan, saying it’s too dense and would take up valuable green space.

The developer’s plan was turned down by the city’s planning committee last September, prompting Deanlee to go to the OMB.

City councillors recently approved a maximum 450 units for the property.

Deanlee has been working with city planners on a revised plan for the brow lands which was expected to be announced earlier this week.

DeMelo told the OMB the two sides are still working on the details and trying to address community concerns and it will take until early July for the revised plan to get finished.

He asked for and received another adjournment.

The parties will get an update on the status of the revised plan via conference call at 10 a.m. on July 18.

City lawyer Nancy Smith said regardless what happens there will be an OMB hearing on the brow lands proposal, probably sometime in the fall.

“The board will hear from expert and lay witnesses and the board will decide based on the totality of that evidence whether or not to approve the Deanlee proposal in its entirety, it may approve a portion or it may reject it,” she said.

Brow lands area resident Agnes Hansevout said she remains optimistic a compromise plan for development can be reached between the city and the developer.

“I think there can be a positive outcome,” she said.
