Re: Latest brow lands proposal gets dismal reviews; Residents say number of units proposed with new unnamed partner doesn’t suit community (Aug. 23)
Not only have Chedoke Health and Deanlee Management Inc. broken their promises to respect the character of this community, but why has the city declared 450-unit condos as appropriate for the neighbourhood without taking the community’s input seriously?
It’s like dropping a small town inside an already established community.
The Places to Grow Act, which is provincial law, states that developments must respect the character of communities, yet Deanlee and the city have not.
Perhaps the city should have provided respectful results when residents were let down after being promised a development which was respectful of their community.
And to those who label the brow lands community as NIMBY, I ask you: How would you like having a 10-storey condo right beside your house? When does a community’s character matter?
This proposal must go back to the community before it’s approved and this developer sells and runs, ending the community’s character forever.
